More than 60 Coinbase employees chose to leave the company, opting for a severance package, to protest CEO Brian Armstrong's assertion that employees should not participate in social activism in the workplace. This represents roughly 5% of the company's employees. This event follows several months of internal activism within the company after management failed to make a public statement on the Black Lives Matter movement.
