Over 650 Google employees signed a petition organized by the Alphabet Workers Union calling on the company to extend abortion-related health benefits to contractors and better protect user privacy in the wake of a Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade in June. Google announced after the Dobbs decision came down that health insurance would cover out-of-state medical procedures and that they could apply for relocation without justification, but that these benefits do not extend to TVCs (temporary, vendor, or contract workers). This petition demanded the benefits be extended to TVCs and also add seven additional sick days, for travel purposes for out of state procedures. The petition also demands that Google never save Google searches related to abortion access or hand them over to law enforcement.
